Another Autism Awareness Night - Due to its success
Thanks to everyone who came out to The Tower on April 29 for an autism awareness night. Due to its success, The Tower is doing it again June 24! (but you don’t have to have a family member with autism to enjoy the night with us!) The Main Street Tower Restaurant is offering gluten and casein-free menu items (many individuals with autism follow restricted diets), reduced background music (to accommodate sensory integration issues) and a quiet area in case of need. Pathfinders for Autism will train restaurant staff in autism sensitivity resulting in a better experience for all. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24 with seating from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. Families interested in attending are encouraged to call ahead at 410-838-8007 and mention Pathfinders.

The historic Concord Point lighthouse will be decorated in blue ribbons on May 20 to recognize National Foster Care Month. The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region is joining the Harford County Department of Social Services to display one hundred blue ribbons- one for every one hundred children in foster care in the State of Maryland. On May 20 at 10am, Arc and Social Services officials will be on hand at the lighthouse as Havre de Grace Mayor Dougherty proclaims May to be Foster Care Month. The purpose of the campaign is to spread awareness of the need for foster and adoptive parents who can provide the safety, permanency, and well being that Maryland’s waiting children deserve. There are approximately 518,000 children in foster care in the United States, over 125,000 of whom are waiting for permanent families. Approximately 20,000 “age out” of the system each year without ever being adopted. The Arc’s Treatment Foster Care Program helps children with special needs in Harford, Cecil, and Northeastern Baltimore Counties that are waiting for foster homes. More families are needed. For more information, please call Kathy Pitrat at 410-836-7177 or email kpitrat@arcncr.org. The web address is www.arcncr.org. You can help change a lifetime…become a foster parent.
